The Stella Schools Program seeks to inspire change and empower students – girls and boys alike – by encouraging them to critically engage with their own reading habits and imagine a future not limited by their gender.
The Stella Schools Program offers a number of special events that will bring some of our talented writers, artists and change-makers to your school. Ignite the imaginations of your school community with panels, workshops or conversations that will explore the relationships between language, gender and power; build confidence; and give students the skills they need to use words to reshape their worlds.
Several of our most popular event formats are outlined below, but if you have specific requests or requirements, please contact us to discuss them.
The Stella Schools Intensives are week-long incursions that spark ideas, stimulate creativity and build self-confidence. Over the course of five days, speakers work closely with a small group of students to nurture their creative skills and voices, and empower them to share their work and ideas with their peers and broader community. The Personal Is Political
When a lack of political voice leads to disempowerment, disengagement and disadvantage, personal voices speak up. In this special in-schools version of one of our most popular Girls Write Up panels, three writers offer personal testimonies on the politics that affect them. This is followed by a discussion and Q&A hosted by Schools Manager Bec Kavanagh or one of our Stella Schools Ambassadors. Cost: $690 + GST*
Encourage your students to respond creatively to the things that matter to them by developing their skills and confidence in this two-hour workshop. Your host will share expertise in their artistic field — slam poetry, theatre, nonfiction, fiction or comics — and help students expand their creative expression. These workshops are limited to twenty students, with a maximum of two workshops per day. Cost (per single workshop): $540 + GST*
If you’re interested in booking one of the remarkable women we work with as a keynote speaker for your next school event, please contact us to discuss the specifics of your request.
Invite your students to be inspired by one of Australia’s many talented female writers as they discuss their work and passions with Schools Manager Bec Kavanagh or one of our Stella Schools Ambassadors. These incredible role models will speak frankly about their experiences as professional writers, offering students an intimate glimpse into the creative life. Cost: $590 + GST*
Stella Schools Manager Bec Kavanagh and Stella Schools Ambassador Emily Maguire are available to run Professional Development sessions with your staff in Victoria and NSW. Beginning with a discussion of the gender stereotypes faced by young people today, these sessions focus on the ways these stereotypes can be reinforced — or challenged — by the books studied at school. Staff will be given a list of videos and resources, and Bec and Emily are happy to make tailored text recommendations upon request. Cost: $350 + GST*
You can also register your students for Girls Write Up – our daylong mini-festival that teaches empowerment through writing and sharing stories. Read more about Girls Write Up and find dates for your state here.
